Meet Stephanie Kuzmik

Structured Products Manager

Stephanie Kuzmik, Shell Energy’s Structured Products Manager, shares how she is working to support our customers with innovative decarbonisation solutions, and what it’s like to be part of the changing energy conversation.

What is your role at Shell Energy?

As a Structured Products Manager at Shell Energy, I work in a tight-knit team of two but have the opportunity to collaborate day-to-day with peers across our B2B (business-to-business) account management team, pricing, trading, energy solutions, legal, executive – you name it!

Typically, I am tasked with shaping complex energy and contracting solutions for customers who have ‘outside the box’ energy needs, particularly involving renewable energy, environmental certificates and carbon credits.

I especially love having the opportunity to work with organisations with inspiring ambitions around carbon abatement and renewable energy targets. It’s wonderful to help them to drive positive environmental change in Australia.

Why Shell Energy?

I’ve worked in energy for longer than I would like to say, in brokerage and consultancy roles, as well as other retailers.

As an outsider looking in, I had always felt that Shell Energy (formerly ERM Power) did things differently and gave honest consideration and care to their customers. That coupled with the like-minded, passionate, and clever people Shell Energy employs, I had always kept them on my radar as somewhere I would like to work.

Since joining Shell Energy, I’ve certainly not been disappointed!

What is it like to work here?

In a nutshell, it’s fun! I love the challenge that each day at Shell Energy brings. It’s a feeling that we’re doing something different, and we’re doing it as a team.

Working at Shell Energy has given me opportunities to take my career to new areas and provided me with exposure to work on projects, and with different parts of the business, that I wouldn’t normally have exposure to.

I started my Shell Energy career in our Energy Solutions team as a Channel Sales Manager, then transitioned into the Sales Operations Manager role where I had the opportunity to shape our processes and procedures to strive towards excellence and best-practice.

Now you’ll find me in my current role as Structured Products Manager helping to design the future of Shell Energy’s green products – that’s pretty exciting to me!

These are opportunities that have come up because of the advancement of our organisation, and a willingness to try something new. I like that with Shell, there’s a host of possibilities ahead.

How do you achieve work-life balance?

The workplace flexibility at Shell Energy allows me to live the best of both worlds. We’ve adapted as a business to working flexibly from home, which I’m able to do a day or two a week, to give me that extra time with my family and skip the daily commute.

Then other days I’m in our head office engaging with my peers and learning constantly from the people around me.

What are the keys to success at Shell Energy?

I think there’s a real ethos at Shell Energy to try something new and to be a bit different. We understand that our diversity makes us stronger and we allow for all voices to be heard.

I’d say the key to success here, like many places, is to just get stuck in, be the change you want and create the path you choose.

I’m excited about the future of energy because…

Right now, the conversation in energy is changing. There’s a transition towards decarbonisation and renewables, organisations nationally and internationally are working towards sustainability targets and I’m excited to be supporting them in their trajectory.

What would you say to someone considering a career with Shell Energy?

Come on board! Shell Energy is a place where people can expand their horizons and grow in their career. Working in energy is never boring and there’s a bright future ahead at Shell Energy.
