Koorangie Energy Storage System reaches operational milestone

The 185MW/370MWh Koorangie Energy Storage System (KESS), located in Victoria, is now fully operational.

Shell Energy was pleased to support the development of Koorangie through a 15-year offtake agreement. The grid-scale battery, located in the Murray River Renewable Energy Zone near the renewable energy-rich area of Kerang, Victoria, is capable of powering 350,000 homes for two hours.

Developed and delivered by Edify Energy, Koorangie will contribute to Victoria’s drive to meet legislated energy storage targets of at least 2.6 GW of storage capacity by 2030 and 6.3 GW by 2035.

The completion of this project marks Shell Energy’s third large-scale battery milestone, with almost 500 megawatts managed across multiple locations. It’s an important part of our firming portfolio, helping to optimise supply and system security in a transitioning energy market.
