The partner: Global premium and luxury wine producer, Treasury Wine Estates (TWE) The challenge: Treasury Wine Estates is decarbonising its operations – from vineyards to cellar doors, wine production facilities to packaging centres and its corporate offices around the world. The solution: Shell Energy worked with Treasury Wine Estates at the global wine producer’s site in South Australia’s Barossa Valley to install around 6,000 solar panels. The installations, which include solar power panels on purpose-built car park canopies, are estimated to generate around 3,600 megawatt-hours of electricity per year. The project puts the wine producer on track to be powered by 100% renewable electricity by the end of 2024. Next up? The company is rolling out 7 systems at its Californian properties in the Napa Valley and Central Coast, installing a 535kWh battery storage system in the Barossa Valley, and as well as electric vehicle charging to support the transition to hybrid and electric vehicles.
“Introducing solar panels at our sites makes a significant contribution to our ambition of net zero direct emissions. Switching on the solar system here in South Australia’s Barossa Valley complements our other systems that are already operational, or scheduled to be completed in the coming year, at our sites in Australia, France, Italy, and the US. It’s all part of our broader goal to make wine sustainably, and cultivate a brighter future for the communities where we operate.” – Kerrin Petty, Chief Supply & Sustainability Officer, Treasury Wine Estates
