Our UMI customer satisfaction result
In June, we launched our new platform: Renewable Energy Contracting Options (or RECO). With RECO, businesses can meet their renewable energy goals simply and flexibly online in a matter of minutes.
RECO effectively allows Shell Energy customers to progressively purchase renewable energy. Given the way the electricity market operates, it is generally not possible to physically buy electricity from renewable sources. When you make a RECO purchase through our online Shell Energy Portal, Shell Energy buys Large-scale Generation Certificates (LGCs) from accredited renewable generators and then surrenders them on your behalf.
With RECO, you can also make purchases linked to specific renewable energy generators, as well as make, adjust and track RECO purchases in line with specific electricity contract requirements, business needs and targets.
Before RECO, purchasing LGCs required a manual, complex and time-intensive process, which made meeting carbon reduction goals a challenging process. RECO is a simple and flexible solution that can help large businesses meet their renewable energy targets online in just five easy steps.
Construction of the 185MW/370MWh Koorangie Energy Storage System reached an important milestone in August, as we commenced the installation of 100 Tesla Megapacks on site. The battery, which is capable of powering 350,000 homes for two hours, is being built in the Murray River region and will help secure the future stability of renewable energy in the Murray River Renewable Energy Zone.
The project is being developed by Edify Energy in partnership with specialist infrastructure investor Sosteneo SGR Spa. Once operational, Shell Energy will hold full operational rights to the battery through a 15-year offtake agreement. Koorangie will play an important role in our portfolio, helping us to manage customer demand in a transitioning energy market.
Construction of the Koorangie facility is on schedule and charging towards energisation and commercial operations in 2025.
During 2024, we continued our work with The GPT Group to help deliver their energy masterplan and reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.
The GPT Group aims to achieve net-zero emissions across its property portfolio by 2030 through the delivery of its energy masterplan.
Some of the ways that we’re working The GPT Group to achieve its energy goals is through the procurement of renewable energy, increasing energy efficiency across their sites and implementing on-site renewable energy projects like Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
Watch the video below for more information on how we’re helping The GPT Group to meet its net-zero goals:
We marked the start of 2024 with the news that Shell Energy Australia has been ranked number one for large business customer satisfaction in the Utility Market Intelligence (UMI) survey1 for the 13th consecutive year.
The UMI survey is undertaken every year in Australia by independent research company NTF Group, and surveys large electricity customers of major electricity retailers. The latest results released by UMI show that 90% of Shell Energy’s customers are either very satisfied or satisfied, well ahead of its competitors.
Tony Keeling, CEO of Shell Energy Australia, attributes this continued satisfaction to the quality of our customer service experience.
At Shell Energy, our people are passionate about providing customers with the exceptional, tailored service they not only need, but deserve, no matter whether that’s through our on-time, reliable and accurate billing, access to reliable and up-to-date energy data via our online Portal or our dedicated and approachable account management team.
