Retail Charges

The Loss Factor that is applied to metered usage to get the Total Price (excl GST) can be the Net Loss Factor, the Distribution Loss Factor or nil depending on the environmental scheme.

Environmental Charges

Charges relate to the various legislated State and Federal government green schemes. These Schemes may differ depending on which State the site is in.

Network Charges

Network tariffs are charges we pass through via your bill on behalf of the local network provider in the area the site is located. The network provider determines your tariff based on the site’s electricity usage and consumption patterns. In some instances, Network /Tariff time periods can differ from the time periods applied to your retail energy charges.

Market Operator Charges

These charges are passed through to you and represent your portion of the fees payable by us to the Australian Energy Market Operator, the manager of the National Electricity Market (NEM).

Metering Charges

Metering and other refers to metering charges payable under your agreement, either for metering arranged by Shell Energy or directly by you under a direct agreement with a Metering Provider.

Power Factor

This is the ratio of real power (watts) compared to apparent power (volts amperes) flowing to this site. Some Network providers’ charges are affected by a less than optimal Power Factor (less than 1).

Summary Information

CO2 emission is calculated using the energy consumption for the billing period and factors based on the jurisdiction which the site resides in.

Load Factor

Carbon Intensity Index

This is an indexed figure which is based on the physical half hourly generation being dispatched into the National Electricity grid.

Loss Factors

Loss factors relate to energy lost due to electrical resistance and the heating of conductors as electricity flows through the transmission and distribution networks. These factors compensate for that loss. Losses are approximately 10 percent of the total electricity transported between power stations and market customers.

If you have Generation installed and your meter has been configured you can see any consumption exported back to the grid in the NMI Profile Summary under BChannel Data.

Transmission Charges

For sites in Victoria, these are pass-through charges only applicable if your site. There are three types of transmission charges: • Anytime volume - usage for the period calculated against the network’s transmission rates. • Peak injection - peak injection amount calculated against the network’s injection rates. • Cross system charges - only applicable to some locations in Victoria. For sites located in New South Wales, Queensland or South Australia, Shell Energy will recover the Transmission Costs under a Fixed Daily Charge that is agreed upfront in the contract.

Distribution Charges

These are pass-through charges applicable to all sites in Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland, and South Australia. There are two types of charges: • Demand or Volume Tariff: The calculation method for this charge varies across the different Distribution Network Providers but it is typically based on the Maxium Hourly Quantity (MHQ)/Maxium Daily Quantity set by the network for your site or the total volume of gas used within a certain period. • Operations and Maintenance (O&M): it is typically a flat rate that the networks charge for the maintenance of the gas meter.

Market Charges

These are pass-through charges set by AEMO. These charges can be based on total volume of gas used and/or the number of days in the billing period. The type of charges that applies varies across states.
