Investing in the firming assets needed for Australia’s energy transition

Firming generation is the key to unlocking Australia’s energy transition and Shell Energy is proudly advancing firming assets that support Australia’s decarbonisation and a net zero future.

Assets like grid-scale batteries and gas-peaking power, paired with our trading team’s capability, can help deliver system security in a rapidly changing energy market.

Shell Energy manages a battery portfolio of almost 500 megawatts that is delivered across three locations in collaboration with battery partners – including the 185MW/370MWh Koorangie Energy Storage System in Victoria’s Murray River region, the 200MW/400MWh Rangebank BESS in Cranbourne West Victoria, and the 60MW/120MWh Riverina Energy Storage System 1, in New South Wales.

In addition to this, our gas-peaking power stations in Queensland and Western Australia provide fast ramping support in times of peak energy demand.

See how firming provides flexibility in a changing market for stable, reliable, and responsive power, which will support the energy system and therefore businesses and households needs for today and for tomorrow.
