Our commitment to creating a more sustainable energy future is integrated across our business on three levels:
Running a safe, efficient, responsible and profitable business
Safety and respect for our employees, customers and communities are fundamental to how we do business. Global standards, processes and tools are in place to manage safety, the environment and how we engage with communities. We’re continuously improving the way we operate to prevent incidents and to identify, avoid where possible and minimise adverse environmental and social impacts.
Sharing wider benefits where we operate
We take a long-term view in planning our business to ensure we positively contribute to the communities in which we operate. We look for ways to minimise the impact of our operations on the environment and support a range of charitable causes that help make a difference to communities.
Shaping a more sustainable energy future
Shaping a more sustainable energy future requires urgent action and long-term vision. We help our customers navigate the rapidly evolving energy landscape and address the changing expectations of their stakeholders and regulators. There is a need for society as a whole to address the climate challenge and we advocate that businesses, governments and society work together to shape a more sustainable energy future.
As demand for energy increases, the imperative to find more and better ways to power our world has never been greater. Our customers’ needs are changing, driven by the rapid transformation and decarbonisation of the Australian energy market. We’re strategically investing in the right technologies and projects so that we can contribute to a cleaner energy future.
We’re proud to support the causes our people are passionate about. We encourage employees who are active in their communities to support charitable causes and organisations. We recognise the commitment of our team by promoting and supporting their fundraising initiatives.
Our support extends to employee-led activities that focus on wellbeing and community. Initiatives have included: making a positive difference towards men’s health with Movember, Mater Chicks in Pink supporting women with breast cancer and Lifecycle for CanTeen helping young people cope with cancer in their family.
Our team has thrown their support behind the Lifeblood Red Cross Blood Donation program, helping to save lives through blood and plasma donations. Lifeblood is a life-saving social responsibility program where workplaces, community groups and universities around Australia unite to save lives through blood donation. Together, Lifeblood members work towards ensuring that 25% of Australia’s blood donations are secured.
We partner with the QUT Science and Engineering Faculty to provide scholarships for undergraduate and postgraduate female QUT students to use their education and gain real on-the-job experience to become technology leaders. The program was established in 2019 as part of our continued commitment and investment in improving diversity both within our business and Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths (STEM) fields of work.
