Meet Isabelle Miller

Graduate Software Engineer

Isabelle’s journey with Shell Energy kicked off in 2019 through an Undergraduate Scholarship for Women in IT, where she joined our Digital and Technology Solutions team. She has now moved into a Graduate Software Engineer role. Isabelle shares why she’s excited about the future of energy and what it’s like to work at Shell Energy.

My role

My role involves delivering technical support to the business and our customers. Day-to-day this includes collaborating with business stakeholders and fellow developers to resolve challenges and deliver innovative solutions.

Getting my start in energy

The Undergraduate Program provided a launching pad into a challenging and exciting career at the frontier of technological developments in the energy industry. I look forward to continuing to build on and apply my knowledge and skills in a collaborative team environment to innovate and deliver software engineering solutions addressing important challenges facing the energy industry.

Through the company’s commitment to investing in staff training and professional development, I have had the opportunity to further my technical knowledge and skills in areas including AWS Cloud technologies, agile methods and leadership. Regular supportive mentoring from senior leadership team members has also been a valuable resource during my transition from university into the workforce.

Why a career in STEM and with Shell Energy?

I chose to pursue a career in STEM because I am interested in the role of technology on a societal level, especially how social systems adapt in response to the emergence of new technologies. The world is facing big challenges and working at Shell Energy provides the opportunity to change people’s lives through productive collaboration between the technology and energy industries. I wanted to be part of that.

I’m excited about the future of energy because…

We are currently in a period of great change, innovation and opportunity in the energy industry. New sources of energy and energy efficient practices are being more widely used every day. As we transition to a more climate-conscious planet over the next decade or so, new technologies will become crucial in helping produce more efficient and low-emission energy sources in a more sustainable way.

What’s it like to work here?

Shell Energy’s team-driven environment is friendly and supportive. I have always felt part of the team and my opinion is valued, even though I am at an early stage in my career.

My experience with flexible working here has been very positive in terms of maintaining a balance between work, university and personal commitments. I have especially appreciated the responsiveness and adaptability of Shell Energy’s approach throughout the challenges of the COVID-19 period.
